Collection of detailed copy engineering drawings, 1945, Drawing no. Z6643. The Ceylon Government Railway Garratt was one of the last to be built under the original patent for the Garratt locomotive. The first locomotive (order no 1128) was produced in 1927 and was a prototype 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 for the mountain section of the railway. The 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 was compared against the customary 4-6-0 + 0-6-4 and was found to make a 20% saving in coal consumption. The engineering drawings in this collection are from the second order of 8 engines (order no 11131) acquired by Ceylon Government Railways in 1945.

Records of works

This volume contains information relating to 123 orders made by Beyer, Peacock for machine tools from other companies between 1865 and 1871. Details are recorded such as when the order was placed and with who, when it was expected and when it actually arrived. There is a record of the order number, a description of the order and a note of the stock number to which the order relates. Not all of the volume is used for this purpose; much of it has been used as a sketch and calculation book for the years 1877-1900. Indexed.
